WOBURN — The Woburn School Committee voted unanimously to close a $205,000 fiscal 2027 budget gap by delaying, rather than cutting, a new assistant facilities director position. Finance Director Alex Dizio presented options including eliminating the role outright; member Pat Chisholm instead moved to fund it at $65,000 for a January start, paired with $50,000 cut from homeless transportation and $27,000 from electricity. "We need someone that's a backup for him to keep these schools running," Chisholm said.
The meeting opened with extensive public comment, led by Woburn Teachers Association President Christy Nickerson, over the involuntary transfer of 13-year guidance counselor Katie Bolkham to teach middle school Spanish; Superintendent Matt Crowley declined to comment, calling it a personnel matter. The committee also approved a new AI-use policy in the WMHS handbook and reaffirmed a firearm safe-storage resolution.
