School board tables strategic plan until Oct. 28

School Committee · Meeting of September 30, 2026

WOBURN — The Woburn School Committee voted to table its 2026-2030 strategic plan until an October 28 meeting instead of adopting it Tuesday night. Vice Chair Ellen Crowley made the delay motion, saying she wanted "more thoughtful consideration" of the plan before endorsing it, and the board agreed unanimously. The committee separately voted unanimously to raise the hourly rental rate charged to custodians for school facility use from $55 to $65, effective January, and reappointed Superintendent Matt Crowley to the SEEM Collaborative Board.

Director of Facilities Lenny Burnham detailed summer capital projects across all ten district buildings, including a new districtwide lockdown security system and asbestos abatement work. Resident Emily Peters told the board during public comment that a typical school breakfast contained "38 grams of added sugar, 52 grams of total sugar," exceeding pediatric guidelines, and asked for parent representation on the district's wellness committee.
