Woburn Committees Advance Golf Authority Appointment and Tower Park Traffic Study

WOBURN — June 22, 2026 — Woburn committees advance golf authority appointment and Tower Park Drive traffic review. The Personnel Committee, chaired by Councilor Jeff Dillon, unanimously recommended Brian Maranon — a golf industry professional with more than 35 years of experience and deep ties to the Woburn Country Club — to fill a vacancy on the Woburn Golf and Ski Authority, sending the appointment to the full City Council for confirmation. Maranon said he has been involved with the club since around 1980 and was instrumental in hiring the course's current superintendent during a recent management transition. Separately, the ordinance committee unanimously advanced a zoning plan modification for Madison Properties' Tower Park Drive commercial site — home to a hotel, Chick-fil-A, Press Cafe, and Starbucks — after an attorney confirmed that Chick-fil-A has retained traffic firm VAI to study signal coordination along Tower Park Drive and Washington Street, following a request by Councilor Braun. A noted concern is that unauthorized restriping by an abutter years ago eliminated the two-lane configuration on the upper portion of Tower Park Drive that was part of the original approval.
